Rebels Make It To OT But Come Up Short

The Rebels played a better game then the last few previous outings and were rewarded with a tie going into overtime against Heavy Duty. The Rebels couldn't kill off a penalty going into the extra frame though and ended up losing 3-2. Mike and Darcy were the goal scorers for the night and Gary and Darcy both ended with 2 points each.

Rebels Lose to Wolfpack **EDIT: Wolfpack Defaults Game to Rebels

The Rebels went into the second half tied 1-1 vs. the Wolfpack but the lack of effort through a full game again resulted in a loss, this time by a score of 4-2. Mike, Matt and Gary were the only line that managed to get on the scoresheet as all 3 tallied 2 points a piece.

*EDIT: Turns out the pick up goalie the Wolfpack used plays in a Division higher than us. The rule states that an emergency pick up goalie has to be in your Division or lower to be eligible to play. As a result, the Wolfpack defaulted the game and we have been awarded the win.

Rebels Not Hot Enough to Beat Coolies

The Rebels lost to the Coolies 4-3 which seems to have become a trend when they do lose. Every loss the Rebels have had have only been by 1 goal and 4 out of their 5 losses have ended 4-3 in favour of the opposition. The Rebels did hold the lead twice in this game but then went down by 2 goals in the second half and had to play catch up only to end up short. Darcy tallied a goal and an assist while Jason T. and Scott rounded out the scoring. Steve and Alex both added two helpers each on the night.

Tuesday, November 23, 2010

Rebels Come Up Short Against Crushers

The Rebels lost their hustle and sense of urgency that they had last game and as a result, lost to the Crushers by a score of 4-3. Mike and Matt came away with a goal and an assist each while Gary ended with two assists. Shane rounded out the scoring for the Rebels with Chris L. and Gino adding the helpers.

Sunday, November 14, 2010

Rebels Not Nice to Naughty Babay

Naughty Babay scored just over a minute into the game then added another one just two minutes later and it seemed like they were going to dominate the rest of the game. The Rebels didn't roll over and give up though, they turned the table and scored 6 unanswered goals to give them a decisive 6-2 victory. Mike scored a natural hat trick while Darcy, Dave and Chris L. all had two point nights.

Rebels Blanked By Usual Suspects

The Rebels had their fair share of shots against the Usual Suspects but failed to find the back of the net once during the game. The Suspects only managed one goal mid way through the second half but it was enough to give them the 1-0 victory. With only 4 goals against so far this season the Rebels have shown that they play well defensively, they just now need to start showing up on the scoreboard more often to ensure more wins.

Rebels Run Around Pylons

The Rebels got their first win of the season and it was decisive as they blanked the Pylons 3-0. Scott H. made quite a few key saves to earn the shut out. Gary scored twice and added an assist for a 3 point night while Darcy and Mike walked away with 2 points a piece.

Rebels Lose to Them in Season Opener

The Rebels started out strong agaisnt the team known as "Them" by tallying early in the game on a goal from Gary. Their opponent was able to get on the board near the end of the first though to bring the teams even going into the second. The Rebels seemed to get handcuffed in their own zone in the second half and with poor man to man coverage "Them" were able to add another two goals to put the game almost out of reach. The Rebels did start playing hard in the last 5 minutes though and were able to notch 2 goals from Jason and Mike but it was too little too late as they came up short by a score of 4-3. If a lesson was to be learned from this game it was to hustle from beginning to end and on every shift to ensure success.

Gary Sweeps at Skills Competition

The Rebels held their annual Skills Competition before the start of the winter season to determine the fastest player and the king of the shootout. Not so suprisingly, Gary came out the winner of the shootout but, suprisingly, he also won the fastest player to sweep the competition!

Rebels Clip Wingmen

The Rebels played arguably their best game of the season versus the Wingmen with a decisive 7-2 victory. The Wingmen struck first near the halfway mark of the first then got another quick goal just over a minute later to give them a 2-0 lead. It looked like it was going to be another one of those games but the Rebels didn't give up and surprised even themselves by scoring 4 goals in 2 minutes and 40 seconds to take a 4-2 lead going into the second half. The onslaught continued into the second as the Rebels found the back of the net 3 more times to give them 7 goals in a row and ultimately the win. Gary had a hat trick and an assist for a 4 point night and Shane came away with two goals and an assist for 3 points. Mike had a great outing as well tallying 4 assists while Dale netted a goal and 2 assists for a 3 point game. Gino rounded out the scoring. The win was bittersweet however as the Rebels had already been eliminated from the playoffs previous to this game.
It was a tough season for the Rebels... the team had over 150 man games lost due to injury or absences. That compares to the only 39 man games lost in their previous season where they won the division championship. The team will now regroup and look to strengthen themselves and look ahead to a bounce back season this coming October.

Rebels Eliminated From Playoffs With Loss To Dirty Danglers

The Rebels lost 4-2 to the Dirty Danglers . Gino and Dale were the goal scorers. The loss officially eliminates the Rebels from the playoffs and this marks the first summer season since the team started that they will not be involved in the post season.

Saturday, July 17, 2010

Rebels Edge Out Spitfires

The Rebels came from behind 3 times during the course of the game versus the Edmonton Spitfires to steal the win. They managed to take the lead with just under 5 minutes left in regulation and were able to hold on to that lead even while down a man and with the Spitfire's goalie pulled in the dying minutes. Gary, Mike and Jason T. all had 4 point nights while Steve and Scott ended with 2 points a piece. The win keeps the post season hopes alive for the Rebels who are now just 1 point out of that last playoff spot.

Tuesday, July 13, 2010

Rebels Get Bit By Cobra Kai

The Rebels have a decent defensive game with their "goals against" placing them in 10th place in division 9. Their "goals for" however, is what is causing their disappointing season. They sit in 19th place out of 22 teams in that column. The game versus Cobra Kai was another example of that. Scott C. was the lone scorer in a 3-1 loss. The Rebels are still holding on to 18th place but have slipped to 3 points out of the 16th and final playoff spot.

Sunday, July 11, 2010

Loss Place Rebels Below Playoff Line

The Rebels lost to the 3rd place Afterburners by a score of 4-1. Dale was the lone scorer for the team. The Rebels now sit in 18th place but are just 1 point out of that 16th and final playoff spot.

Tuesday, July 06, 2010

Rebels Lose to The Farm Team

The Rebels lost 5-4 versus The Farm Team. Gary had 2 goals and Curt and Mike rounded out the scoring. Chris L. and Mike both ended the night with 3 points a piece. The Rebels now sit in 16th place which is the final playoff spot. They are just one point up on 17th and 18th place and 2 points up on 19th and 20th so they'll need to work hard to earn those points in the coming games to spread the gap and ensure a post season.

Wednesday, June 30, 2010

Rebels Skewer Scorpions

The return of Mike and Gary seemed to put the spark back into the Rebels as the team achieved a decisive 7-1 victory over the 6th place Scorpions. Gino opened up the scoring just 16 seconds into the game. This was also his first goal as a Rebel. 25 seconds later Steve found the back of the net to give his team a 2-0 lead. Gino then got his second goal of the game and Chris L. added his first as a Rebel to close out a 4-0 lead going into the second half. Gary continued the Rebels' dominance adding two goals himself and Gino netted his hat trick goal shortly after. The Scorpions were able to finally break the shut out bid with just over 6 minutes remaining. Steve and Gino both had 4 point nights and Gary, Mike and Chris L. all came away with 3 points each.

Saturday, June 26, 2010

The Rebels lost their second meeting with the Creepers by a score of 2-0. The Rebels did have a lot more shots this game than in previous match-ups but they just weren't able to beat the opposing goaltender to get on the board.

Wednesday, June 23, 2010

Rebels Lose in OT

The Rebels scored first off a goal by Shane but then allowed the Snipes the tying goal halfway through the second half which eventually brought the two teams to overtime. The Rebels did have their chances early but it was the Snipes who capitalized late in the frame to steal the win.

Rebels Settle For Another Tie

The Rebels played one of their better games this season even though they had a very short bench. With just 6 forwards and 3 defensemen the Rebels were able to open the scoring early in the first off a goal by Steve. However, the Raging Bulls were able to answer back a few minutes later to tie the game up. The Rebels kept the pressure on though and Jason T. was able to find the back of the net with 39 second left in the first half to put his team back in front. The chances went back and forth for both teams in the second half but when the Bulls started playing desperation hockey near the end of the game the Rebels couldn't them off and allowed the tying goal with just 25 seconds remaining in the game. Overtime solved nothing so both teams went away with a point each.

Sunday, June 13, 2010

Rebels Get Crushed

The Rebels lost to the Orange Crush 3-1. The game was close with the Rebels down 1-0 after the first half but the Crush were able to add another two goals in the second to pad their lead. The Rebels finally managed to break the shutout with just 13 seconds remaining in the game on a great individual effort by Steve.

Tuesday, June 08, 2010

Rebels Losing Streak Comes To An End

The Rebels didn't win the game versus the Penetrators but did manage a tie to bring their 7 game losing streak to and end. Jason T. had a goal and an assist for a 2 point night and Dale and Steve rounded out the scoring.

Monday, May 31, 2010

Rebels Downed By Creepers

The Rebels managed to score first off a goal by Matt G. but then it was the same story as of late where they just weren't able to capitalize on enough shots which ultimately leads to a loss. In this case the Creepers only found the back of the net 3 times but it was enough to give them the win.

Tuesday, May 25, 2010

Rebels Come Up Short Against Afterburners

The Rebels struck early in the first to go up 1-0 with a goal from Devin but the Afterburners then answered with their own goal and then added another 2 to end the first with a score of 3-1. The Rebels did fight hard and had quite a few chances during the second but it wasn't until the dying minutes that they were able to find the back of the net with Nestor scoring on a point shot. Scott H. then came out of the net to add the extra attacker but the Rebels we unable to get that tying goal.

Monday, May 17, 2010

Rebels Play Yet Another Overtime Game

The Rebels went to overtime for the 4th time in 9 games versus the GD Bulldogs. The Bulldogs got on the scoresheet first early in the first half and it took close to the end of the second for the Rebels to answer back with a goal by Gary. The Rebels had a ton of chances to go up near the end of the game and the beginning of overtime but it was the Bulldogs who were able to capitalize off of a bounce off the end boards to steal the win.

Tuesday, May 11, 2010

Rebels Lose To Wingmen

With 4 players out with injuries and another 2 unable to attend the game the Rebels had a tough go against the Wingmen and ultimately lost by a score of 7-5. The Rebels had their fair share of chances, scoring on most of their shots they took on the opposing goalie, but in their own end they allowed the Wingmen too many opportunities and those opportunities eventually led to 7 goals and the loss. Gary scored a hat trick for the Rebels and Shane and Mike each ended with 3 points.

Wednesday, May 05, 2010

Rebels Lose in Overtime

The Rebels headed to overtime for the third time in six games but this time around the ending wasn't in their favour as they fell to the Piranhas by a score of 3-2. Missing their top 2 centremen due to injuries, the Rebels tried to fill in the gaps as best they could and they did hold their own through regulation time . Mike and Scott C. came away with a goal each and it's also worth mentioning that the Rebels displayed a lot of discipline, having no penalties called against them during the entire game.

Sunday, May 02, 2010

Rebels Lose to Raging Bulls

The Rebels managed 4 powerplay goals but didn't do well enough at even strength and gave up a shorthanded goal which equated to a 7-5 loss versus the Raging Bulls. Tuesday, April 27, 2010

Rebels Sting Scorpions

It was a back and forth game with Rebels ending up on the better side of a 4-3 overtime win. The Scorpions got on the board first near the halfway mark of the opening frame but the Rebels answered right back a minute later with a goal by Gary to tie things up. The same thing happened again a few minutes later with the Scorpions retaking the lead but Mike found the back of the net this time to deadlock the teams at 2 a piece going into the second half. The Scorpions scored early into the second and it stayed that way until Alex was able to find the twine after a scramble in front of the net. The Rebels then got into some trouble that found them killing a penalty in overtime but they were able to manage a 2 on 0 breakaway with Mike feeding a cross crease pass to Gary to end the game and give the Rebels the win.

Rebels Come Up Short In Hard Fought Game

The Rebels and Cobra Kai played a tough match against each other with no team scoring until the last 6 minutes of the game. Cobra Kai then answered back just over 2 minutes later while on the powerplay to tie things up. The Rebels went down another goal with just under 2 minutes remaining in the game and were unable to find the back of the net again resulting in a 2-1 loss.

Wednesday, April 21, 2010

Rebels Win in Overtime

Down 2-0 early in the first, the Rebels managed to come back and earn an overtime win against the Old Dirty Bastards with the final scoring ending 6-5. Rebels Not So Hot Against Hotshots

After doing everything right in their first game, the Rebels seemed to do the exact opposite in their second. They weren't able to break out of their zone effectively and coughed the ball up numerous times resulting in the Hotshots adding up a 3-0 lead after the first half. Not much improved in the second save for the fact that Dean was able to break the shut out to bring the score to 3-1. The Rebels will now regroup and try to work these kinks out at their next game.

Monday, April 12, 2010

Rebels Win Division 9 Championship!

After 11 seasons, 269 games, 9 post season appearances and trips to two championship finals the Rebels have won their first Division title!
In the second game of the best of 3 finals the Rebels once again struck early. Just 34 seconds in Matt G. batted a rebound out of the air to find the back of the net. Gary then padded the lead with just under 8 minutes remaining but the Knowlton Gnashers responded back quickly and finished out the first half down by one goal. There was no scoring for the first 10 minutes of the second half until the Gnashers were able to sneak another one past Scott H. to tie things up. Then just 4 minutes later the Gnashers took the lead on a powerplay goal. The Rebels kept fighting though and got a lucky goal when Mike F. passed the ball into the slot and it went off a diving Gnasher defenseman and into the net just after the 6 minute mark. Then with just over a minute left and the face off in the Gnashers zone the Rebels won the face off, Mike P. ended up with the ball and took a quick wrister at the net. It missed on the short side and went around the boards. Devin picked it up and quickly threw it on the net, it went off a Gnasher defensemen and right to Mike P. who patiently settled the ball down and shot it into the wide open net giving the Rebels the lead with just 1 minute and 6 seconds left and ultimately giving them the win.

Rebels Take Game 1

The Rebels defeated the Knowlton Gnashers 5-2 in the first game of the finals. The Rebels opened up the scoring just 2 minutes and 15 seconds into the first half when Ryan flipped a wrist shot in from the slot during a powerplay. Gary then added a second goal with 7 minutes left in the frame and Mike added his own in the final minute to give the Rebels a commanding 3-0 lead. The Gnashers were able answer back at 18:24 of the second while on the powerplay. Then at the halfway mark Gary added his second goal of the night to give the Rebels the 3 point spread again. The Gnashers managed another goal with 5 minutes left in the game but once again the Rebels answered back with Dustin finding the back of the net with just over 2 minutes remaining. Gary came away with 4 points on the night while Devin, Ryan, Dustin, Matt G. and Mike P. all tallied 2 points a piece. The Rebels now have the chance to take the championship on Wednesday.

Rebels Defeat Raging Bulls to Move on to Semi Finals

The Rebels have had trouble with the bottom dwelling Raging Bulls. The Bulls stole one in overtime in the regular season and they got on the board first in this quarter final playoff game. The Rebels stayed calm though and Dustin managed to answer back a few minutes later to tie things up. Dustin then added his second goal of the night just after the halfway point of the first to give his team the lead. The Bulls did come back hard, pinning the Rebels in their zone more than a few times causing Scott H. to make some key saves to keep the opposition at bay. It wasn't until the final minute that the Rebels were able to put the nail in the coffin. Gary and Dustin went in on a 2 on 0 breakaway, Gary failed to score on the first shot and then tried on the rebound and came up short. Then Dustin took a couple shots and was able to beat the netminder giving him the natural hat trick and assuring the Rebels of a berth in the semi finals.

Rebels Lose in OT

In the last game of the regular season, the Rebels and Knowlton Gnashers battled to decide 4th place in the Division. The Rebels held on to 4th going into the game but a loss would leap frog the Gnashers in front. Again, it wasn't their best outing of the season but the Rebels did battle hard to at least send the game to overtime giving them that 1 point which secured them a 4th place finish. Dustin scored early in the second to tie the game at 1 a piece but the Gnashers answered back right away to retake the lead. Mike P. then scored to tie things up but once again, the opposition answered back to retake the lead. With just under 10 minutes remaining the Gnashers scored again, hoping it would put the name in the coffin but Mike P. came out and added 2 more goals less than a minute apart to tie things up again and also giving him the natural hat trick. The chances went back and forth in OT with Dustin actually scoring but the goal getting called back because of a delayed penalty. The Gnashers then ended the game with just 39 seconds left. The Rebels now play a single game elimination quarter final playoff game against the Raging Bulls, the 9th place team, who actually beat the Rebels in overtime in their only meeting of the regular season.

Rebels Edge Out Coolies in OT

The Rebels managed to win the game, however it was probably one of their most frustrating outings this season. With the Coolies having a much smaller bench, this 13th place team was somehow able to keep the Rebels at bay during regulation time. It wasn't until the final minutes of the second that the Rebels starting pulling things together. That carried into the overtime period with numerous players getting quality scoring chances leading up to Mike P. finally burying a shot into the back of the net to give the Rebels the win. Dustin played in net for his second time in a row and came away with the well deserved shut out. Now with 1 game remaining it looks like the Rebels will finish in either 4th, 5th or 6th place.

Saturday, March 13, 2010

Rebels and Hoff End in Draw

The Hoffs opened the scoring early in the first then held the lead going into the second half. Gary tied the game up near the halfway mark after his shot went up and over the goalie and landed in the net. Dustin played his first game in net this season and kept his team in it with more than a few big saves. Overtime solved nothing so the 2 teams walked away with a point a piece. The Rebels are now tied for 4th place and with just two games remaining they still have a chance to finish as high as 2nd place or could fall as low as 7th.

Monday, March 08, 2010

Rebels Give Game To Heavy Duty

The Rebels started strong against the 1st place Heavy duty but couldn't hold on to finish that way. The Rebels were up 1-0 after the first half on a goal from Dustin then Cody added another early in the second. The team was playing hard and it looked like the game was in the bag until Heavy Duty netted their first at the halfway mark of the second. The goal seemed to bring them to life while at the same time deflating the Rebels. Heavy Duty came on hard with a strong forecheck that the Rebels failed to counter resulting in another 2 goals slipping passed Scott H. and the win slipping from their grasp. The Rebels currently sit in 4th place with just 3 games remaining and depending on their play could finish as high as 1st place or as low as 8th.

Tuesday, March 02, 2010

Rebels Take Bite Out of Canines.

The Rebels fought hard against the second place Carnage Canines giving them a 3-2 win. The Canines opened up the scoring early but the Rebels answered right back on a goal from Gary. The dogs were able to add one more though near the end of the first half giving them the lead going into the second. The score stayed that way until almost the midway point of the second when Matt G. was able to tie it up. Just over a minute later Gary netted his 2nd goal of the game to give the Rebels the lead which they did not give up. The victory now ties the Rebels for second place and puts them just 2 points out of the top spot in Div. 9.

Rebels Blank RC Connection

Scott H. had to sit out this game because of issues similar to Khabibulin (the back problems, not the DUI) . As a result, Nestor filled in between the pipes for his first time this winter season and played solid enough to earn a shut-out as the Rebels blanked the RC Connection by a score of 4-0. Mike P. opened the scoring near the end of the first half then Dustin added a goal early in the second to give the Rebels a 2-0 lead. The Connection did put on some pressure but Nestor kept them at bay. With the RC goalie pulled Matt G. was able to bury one in the empty in the final minute then added another one for good measure 45 seconds later, this time with the goalie back in the net.

Wednesday, February 17, 2010

Rebels Get Bit By Piranhas

The Rebels looked to have the game in the bag early on taking a 3-0 lead in the first 15 minutes of the match up. However, the Piranhas were able to answer back with 3 goals in the final 6 minutes to bring the teams to a tie going into the second. The Rebels took the lead 3 more times but each time the Piranhas were able to came right back an tie the game up it wasn't until the the final 4 minutes of the game the the Piranhas were able to get their first lead and managed to hold on to it giving the Rebels a disappointing loss. Mike P. did end the night with a hat trick and an assist for 4 points. Devin and Dustin came out with 3 points each and Cody and Gary contributed 2 points a peice.

Rebels Turn Around and Handcuff Toopers

Write up by Darren:

In their last meeting the Super Troopers doubled up on the Rebels resulting in rare loss for the yellow and red. The Rebels seemed pumped and ready to play, but the Troopers also came out working hard.

As hoped for, this game started out strong with an early exchange of goals for a one-one lock up mid-way through the first period. However, Michael Funk and Gary Holden beat the the not-so-Super goalie to give the Rebels a 3-1 lead going into the second. A few judgement lapses gave our overdressed-opponents hope, but the Rebels owned the field for most of the game resulting in a 6-2 victory for their ninth win of the year.

Kobras Venomless Agianst Rebels

The Rebels completely demolished the AGS Kobras by a score of 8-0. The only contribution the Kobras had to the game sheet was adding 56 minutes in penalties and 4 game ejections. The Kobras did not play a clean game by any means, but the Rebels did keep their cool and kept scoring goal after goal. Matt G. came away with a 4 point night scoring a goal and adding 3 assists. Dustin and Mike P. both scored twice and added an assist each giving them 3 points a piece. Gary ended with 3 points and Ryan and Cody both tallied 2 points each. More importantly though was Scott H. earning yet another shut out which now ties the record for most career shut outs by a Rebel... and he's done it in only 12 games! The win now helps the Rebels claw up closer to first place which is only two points out of their grasp.

Monday, January 25, 2010

Rebels Lose To Bullies

The Bullies dished out a 5-2 beat down giving the Rebels just their second regulation loss of the season. The Rebels played what seemed to be their worst game of the season... they couldn't get anything going in the offensive zone due to a lot of intercepted passed and bounces just not going their way. Mike P. and Cody were the only players who managed to find the back of the net. Things weren't much better in the defensive zone as Scott H. took on a barrage of shot after shot from the Bullies.

Sunday, January 17, 2010

Rebels Back To Winning Ways

After going winless for two games in a row, the Rebels came back to their true form and trounced The Moose by a score of 7-2. Mike. P and Gary both notched 4 point nights while Matt G. and Cody came away with 2 each. Now at the halfway point of the season, the Rebels have only lost one game in regulation and are sitting in third place overall and only 2 points out of first.

Rebels and Team Goodtimes Play to a Draw

The Rebels and Team Goodtimes played to a low scoring 1-1 tie. Shane was the loan goal scorer for the Rebels and Mike P. was the helper. Scott H. once again made some highlight reel saves to keep the opposition at bay. The Rebels did have a lot of chances as well but just came up short in getting that winning goal.
