Rebels Summer Season Ends

Naughty Babay came out hard in game 2 scoring 4 straight goals to take what looked to be a stranglehold on the game. Red was able to get on the board though in the second a with a goal from Mason and that seemed to breath some fire into the team. The opposing team was able to add another goal but the Rebels poured it on late in the final frame adding two more goals from Darren and Neal. Time was not on their side though and as the clock ran down so did the Rebels season.

Rebels Lose Game 1 of Semi Finals

(Apologies to Naughty Babay on the delay in getting Blog updated - they mentioned to me in one of our games that they love checking out our Blog!)

The Rebels and Naughty Babay were matched up for Semi Final action. The result for Red though was disappointing as they ended up losing game 1 by a score of 5-2. Mason had both goals for the Rebels while Maj and Mike each tallied an assist.

Rebels Put COBRA back in Their Basket

The Rebels started game 2 of the best of 3 searies a bit flat and as a result, found themselves down 2-0 going into the second half. In typical fashion though, the Rebels mounted a comeback. They scored 3 goals in a row from Adam, Darren and Josh then Mason and Alex scored empty netters to seal the win and sweep the series. Next up is the semi final match up against Naughty Babay.

Rebels Take Game 1 Of Quarter Finals

The Rebels took a 1-0 series lead versus COBRA with a 4-3 victory. The opposing team opened the scoring but the Rebels came right back with 3 straight goals from Darren, Mike and Steve. COBRA got on the board again but Josh answered with a goal of his own to regain the 2 goal lead. Nik let one more sneak past him but then shut the door for the remainder of the game to give his team the win.

Rebels Wrap up Regular Season With a Loss

The Rebels played their last game of the regular season against Naughty Babay and unfortunately came away with a 3-1 loss. Josh was the lone goal scorer for Red. It was an impressive season overall for the Rebels though as they finished third overall with 30 points. Now they will face COBRA in the first round of the playoffs in a best of 3 quarter final series starting Tuesday.

Rebels Come Back to Beat Scared Hitless in OT

Instead of playing well in the first half and not in the second being the norm for the Rebels, it seems that has reversed as the team has made quite a few big comebacks this season. This game was another example as they came back from deficit late in the game to tie things up then ended up winning in overtime. Doven scored the even up goal with just under a minute and half left in the game then Steve won it it overtime with his trademark point shot. Neal, Jesse, Matt and Steve all tallied 2 points a piece in the victory.

Rebels Get Blanked by Invasian

The Rebels were hoping to improve on the close game in their last match up with Invasian but instead ended up getting trounced by a score of 7-0. Red did have their chances but weren't able to put the opposing goalie to the test enough to add some numbers on the scoreboard.

Rebels Win Nail Biter Against Crown Royalers

The Crown Royalers struck first just 39 seconds into the game but Shiv answered back to tie the game up. The 2 teams traded goals back and forth again with Paul scoring from behind the net by banking it off the goalie's shin and in. The opposition got 2 more goals in the dying minutes of the first though to give them a 4-2 lead going into the second. The Rebels answered back in the second though on goals by Doven and Paul to even things up once again. The Crown Royalers were able to beat Nik again a few minutes later to retake the lead. In the dying seconds with Nik out of the net for extra attacker the Rebels put the pressure on and were rewarded with a goal from Mason with just 2 seconds left in regulation to tie things up again and force overtime. In the extra frame Darren pinched up from defense and managed to score giving his team the win and a much deserved 2 points.

Rebels Sweep COBRA

The Rebels were unbeaten in 4 regular season matches versus COBRA ending with a 5-3 win in their last match up. Mason scored the first 3 goals for the Rebels giving him a natural hat trick. James was next to find the back of the net and from there looked as though the team would run away with the win but COBRA managed to get 3 goals in a row to bring the gap to just one. The opposition pulled their goalie to add more pressure but Scott was able to secure the win in the dying seconds with an empty netter.

Rebels Finally Beat Naughty Babay

The Rebels have had a tough time against Naughty Babay losing both of their previous match ups but this game would end in their favour. The Rebels were up 2-1 at the half on goals by Jesse and Roger but gave up the lead early in the second as the opposition was able to beat Nik twice to take the lead. The Rebels answered back shortly after with a goal from Adam then with 2 minutes left Steve was able to find the twine and give his team the win. Steve and Scott both ended the game with 2 points each.

Rebels Make Miracle Comeback

The Rebels found themselves down 5-1 after the first half with only Josh managing to find the back of the net. It looked like the game was out of their reach but instead of giving up they dug deep. Scott started off the scoring in the second half followed by Neal, then Mason, then Darren. Four straight goals by the Rebels tied it up then Neal sealed the comeback to give his team a 6-5 win and one of their best games ever. Neal, Scott, Maj and  Darren all ended the night with 2 points a piece.

Rebels Step Up Against Invasian

The Rebels had a 2-1 lead going into the second half versus Invasian on goals from Scott and Mason. Unfortunatley the opposition was able to get 2 shorthanded goals within a minute of each other to take a 3-2 lead. The Rebels didn't give up though and had a flurry of chances near the end but came up just short. Even though it was a loss, it was still a solid effort for Red and huge difference in play from the blowout that they suffered in the previous match up.

Rebels go to Shoot Out for Second Game in a Row

It was the same score as the previous game but this time not in favour of the Rebels. Nestor stepped in for the absent Nik and played a very solid game. He only allowed one goal in during the shoot out but no players for Red were able to find the back of the net resulting in the 2-1 loss.

Rebels Win in Shoot Out

It was a very tight game between COBRA and a depleted Rebels' roster. Curt stepped in net for just the second time during his tenure and rose to the challenge. He made a few highlight reel saves including a fantastic looking glove save that he himself didn't even know he had until he looked in his glove and saw the ball there. Both teams traded goals in each half and nothing was sloved in overtime so the game required a shoot out to determine the victor. Shiv and Jesse both scored for Red while Curt was the hero and stopped both shooters for COBRA.

Rebels Get Blanked

The Rebels were unable to get on the scoreboard due to the trap system that their opponent was using. Naughty Babay got the lead early then sat back and wasted the clock as much as they could. That seemed to frustrate the Rebels even more leading to mistakes which, in turn, lead to a 4-0 loss.

Rebels Win in Extra Frame

The Rebels were in control of most of the game and should have walked away with the win in regulation but Scared Hitless managed to get 2 goals 20 seconds apart to tie things up and send the game to overtime. In the extra frame Alex was able to get the monkey of his back and finally find the back of net on a highlight reel play involving a fantastic pass from Jesse acroos to Alex and the open net. Mason and Shiv both scored 2 goals each in regulation and Alex ended with a goal and an assist. The win now ties the Rebels for 1st place in Division 12.

Mason 3, Crown Royalers 1

It was the Mason show at this match up as he scored all 3 goals for the Rebels to give his team the win. Martin and Steve ended their nights with 2 points each.

Rebels Lose to Invasian

A short Rebels bench suffered their worst lost of the season as they were downed by a score of 8-3 versus Invasian. Mason had 2 goals and Neal had the other for Red. The Rebels will need to regroup for their next match up against this team and play a much tighter defensive game in order to secure a win.

Rebels Beat COBRA

The Rebels met up with COBRA for the second time this season and beat them for the second time, this time by a score of 4-1. Mason ended the game with 3 assists and Mike tallied 2 goals and an assist to give them 3 points a piece. Martin and Jesse were the other scorers for the Rebels.

Rebels Win in Shoot Out

Similar to last game, the Rebels came out strong but allowed the other team to catch up. This time they were able to win the game though. Eric started the scoring for the Rebels followed by Scott and it stayed 2-0 until the halfway mark of the second half. That's when Ballsohard was able to get 3 goals in quick succession, all in the span of 3 minutes, to give them the lead in the game. Red began to lose their composure again but were able to get back on track and as a result Steve was able to score on a point shot with just under 3 minutes remaining to tie things up. The teams headed to overtime but nothing was decided there so it went to a shoot out. Steve and Shiv both scored for the Rebels and Nik stood strong not allowing anything past him which gave Red the 4-3 win.

Rebels Lose to Scared Hitless

The Rebels came out strong with a goal on their first shift from Scott. Darko then banged home his own rebound halfway through the first frame to put his team up by a score of 2-0. From there something went wrong though and the opposing team came back with 2 goals to round out the first then added another 3 in the second to give them a 5-2 lead. Steve then scored on a point shot midway through the last half to give the Rebels some hope. In the dying minutes Nik headed to the bench for the extra attacker but Scared Hitless put the nail in the coffin by scoring on the open net.

Rebels Lose Unbeaten Coolies

The Rebels weren't able to stop the unbeaten streak of the Coolies as they lost the game by a score of 3-1. Red came close many times to evening up the score but became unraveled in the late goings as frustration set in and the parade to the penalty box started.   The Rebels sit in third place in the division with two games left until the re-tiering.

Rebels Lose in OT

The Rebels were up 3-2 after the first half with Neal finding the back of the net and Martin adding a pair. Naughty Babay was able to find a way to beat Nik as the second half wound down which pushed the two team into overtime. Both teams had chances in the extra frame but it was the opposition who were able to score and take the extra point.

Rebels Have the Power

The Rebels went down by 2 goals early, both on bad giveaways, and were being dominated by the Crown Royalers. After a timeout late in the period though the Rebels were able to get on the board on a goal from Mike Power. From there the momentum switched to the Rebel's favour which allowed Mike to find the back of the net twice more to give Red the lead and ultimately the win. It was Mike's 100th game as a Rebel and he made it a memorable one by getting a natural hat trick and giving his team the win.

Rebels Take Bite Out of COBRA

It was the same score as the previous game but this time the Rebels were on the positive end of a 2-0 shut out. It wasn't without drama though as both teams racked up a total of 46 penalty minutes and saw a player ejected on each side. Shiv and Neal scored for Red while Nik posted his first goose egg of the season.

Rebels Get Shut Out

The Rebels came out flat versus Balls Deep and as result suffered their first loss of the season. Red was unable to have a line 'spark' to create chances although they did start pressing in the final minutes but it was too little, too late.

Rebels Win Second Game of the Season

The Rebels dominated the Flatliners beating them by a score of 6-3. Jesse had a 2 goal night while Mason, Martin, Steve and Paul rounded out the scoring. Jesse, Mason, Steve and Josh all ended the game with 2 points each. Next up is Balls Deep and the Rebels will be looking to make 3 wins in a row.

Rebels Win First Game of Summer Season

The Rebels kicked off their 17th season with a 4-2 win against the Southside Shiver. Red played their first ever game in the Tipton Arena and had to adjust to the size being considerably smaller than the Sportsdome surfaces. The transition didn't take long though as Jesse scored on his first shift with the team just 2 minutes in. The Shiver answered back 10 minutes later with a goal of their own to tie it up. A few minutes later the opposition took a high sticking penalty and Scott capitailzed scoring on the powerplay to regain the lead. In the second half James scored and Jesse found the back of the net once more to give the Rebels a 2 goal advantage. The Shiver was able to pressure and add one more near the end but it wasn't enough as the Rebels took the win. Jesse, Scott, Alex, Chris, and Adam all tallied 2 points a piece.

Rebels Come out Flat in Game 2

The Rebels did get on the scoreboard first with a breakaway goal from Alex but then seemed to sit back and let the Raiders control most of the rest of the game. The result was 4 straight goals by the opposing team. The Rebels started pouring it on in the last 5 minutes of the game and were rewarded with a goal from Eric in the final minute but it wasn't enough. Even with an illegal player scoring for the Raiders the Rebels still came up 2 goals short and must now look ahead to a third and deciding game on Saturday.

Rebels Kick Off Playoffs With A Win

The Rebels drew the Raiders for their quarter final best of 3 series. Although the Raiders used an illegal player as a goalie Red still managed to score 2 goals coming from James and Mason. Rebels Wrap up Regular Season with a Win

The Rebels managed a 4-3 win over the Crown Royalers. Mason ended the night with 2 goals and an assist for a 3 point night while Alex and Martin came away with 2 a piece.
A few things of note this season...
- The Rebels were above 500 for the first time in 3 seasons with a 12-7-1-0 record.
- The 2nd place regular season finish is the highest the Rebels have ever finished in their 16 season history (their previous highest was 4th place)
- The Rebels also had the least amount of goals against this season in their 16 season history with 41 against (their previous lowest was 44 goals against)
- Nik now has the record for lowest goals against average in a regular season for the Rebels with a 1.94 GAA. That was also good enough to give Nik the best GAA in the division for this season.
Now it's on to the playoffs where the Rebels will have a by through the elimination round and will wait for their match up in the quarter finals.

Rebels Lose in OT

The Rebels opened the scoring versus the Phat Bastards off a goal by Matt. The Bastards came back though with 3 goals in a row to take a 3-1 lead going into the second. Eric single handedly put the Rebels back in the game by scoring 2 goals in a row to tie things up. A winner didn't emerge in regulation so the game needed overtime. It wasn't until the final seconds when the Bastards got a penalty shot that they were able to steal the win from the Rebels. The loss put first place out of reach for the Rebels but the overtime point guaranteed them of a second place finish overall in the division.

Rebels Still in the Hunt for First Place

The Rebels cruised to a relatively easy 5-1 win versus the Flatliners. Mason opend up the scoring just 42 seconds into the game. Eric and Mason then traded goals back and forth to give them each a 2 goal game. Steve then scored shorthanded to give Red a 5-0 lead. It wasn't until just over 2 minutes left in the game the the Flatliners were able to sneak one by Nik denying him the shut out. Steve ended the night with 4 points while Mason, Eric and Matt all came away with 2 points a piece. With the win the Rebels secure at least a second place finish and are still in the running for first.

Rebels Earn Third Straight Win

The Rebels coasted to an easy 7-1 win playing against a depleted roster and goalie-less Raiders. Doven, Eric, Mason, Shiv and Sheldon all tallied two points a piece. Of note, Doven scored his first goal of the season and Bruce took his first point of the season adding an assist. Next up is a HUGE game for the Rebels - a battle for first place against the Hellions.

Saturday, February 25, 2012

Rebels Eyeing First Place

It took a shoot out but the Rebels beat the Dragons by a score of 2-1. Steve had a power play goal in the first half and was the lone scorer in the shoot out. Nik stopped all three shooters in the shoot out to earn his 6th straight win. The Hellions lost their game in overtime so now they are hanging on to first place by just one point over the Rebels.

Rebels win streak getting Phat

Write up by Alex:

Just 12 hours later the Rebels hit the floor once again looking to extend the
win streak to 3 and very similar to the previous night found themselves
down 1-0 due to a shorthanded goal early but was quickly shaken off and
able to answer back due to a goal by Martin. Also later in the frame, James
found nothing but net to take the lead. But before the half was over both
teams had 2 goals apiece. The next frame seemed pretty quite but 10
minutes in, Mason picked up the rebound and slammed home what would
end up being the game winner as the Rebels defeat their rivals, the Phat
Bastards by a score of 3-2.
