Playoff Run Comes to an End For Rebels

Write Up by Alex:

The Rebels faced elimination for the first time in the playoffs as they played game 2 of the semi finals. Red had a shakey start in the first half not being able to capitalize on a 5 on 3 powerplay for 1:43 and ended up down by a score of 2-0. The Rebels finally showed some signs of life as Alex scored on the powerplay to bring the Rebels within 1. Jimmy had the helper. But that's as close as it got as the Coolies scored 2 more and ran away with the win 4-1 and swept the series 2-0.

Rebels Lose in Game 1 of Semi Finals

Write Up by Alex:

The Rebels came into the semi finals after sweeping the Hellions in 2 games. Their next test was the number 1 Coolies. The Rebels came out really strong scoring the first goal under 5 minutes into the game. It stayed that was until the 16 minute mark where the Coolies tied it up and went into the second half tied at 1. In the second, the Rebels got themselves into some penalty trouble and had 2 unanswered goals against them. Rebels lost this one 3-1 and are now down 1-0 in the series. James had the only goal and Chris K and Josh added the helpers.

Rebels Stick a Pitchfork in Hellions

The Rebels edged out the Hellions by a score of 1-0 to sweep the best of three quarter final series. Jimmy got the lone goal off a rebound from a wrap around attempt by Alex. The Hellions played desperation hockey and did have their fair share of quality scoring chances but Nik stood on his head to earn the well deserved shut out which was his first in a Rebels jersey. The Rebels now move on the play the Coolies in the best of 3 semi final.

Rebels Serve Up Hellions in a Handbasket

The Rebels took on the Hellions in the first game of the best of 3 quarter final series. Things didn't look good for Red after the Hellions took a 1-0 lead in the first minute of the game. The Rebels rallied back though scoring scoring 4 unanswered goals from Neal, Ali, James and Darko to take a 4-1 lead going into the second half. Once again, the Hellions scored in the first minute of the second frame and the pressure now went to the Rebels to see if they could hold on or give up the lead as they have been known to do in the past. The next shift did turn out to be the turning point but it was in the Rebels favour this time as 2 more goals went in, one from Jimmy (his first of the season) and Ali, with his second of the game. The Hellions tried to make a game of it by finding the back of the net once more but the Rebels onslaught continued as Neal added his second of the night and Jimmy added 2 more of his own for a hat trick giving his team a decisive 9-3 victory. Jimmy ended the night with 5 points while Ali came away with 4. Neal, James and Scott all got 3 points a piece while Paul and Alex tallied 2 each. Warren also added an assist for his first point of the season. The Rebels now have the chance to sweep the Hellions and move to the semi finals with a win on Monday.

Rebels Score a Win For Last Game of the Regular Season

The Rebels finally got a win against the Phat Bastards after losing both previous match ups. Ali, James, Martin and Neal all scored to give Red a 4-3 victory in their last game of the regular season. The Rebels secured 6th place overall which will result in a quarter final match up in the playoffs versus the Hellions.

Rebels Get Shut Out By Wolfpack

The Rebels lost by a score of 5-0 against the Wolfpack, a team that is now becoming one of their biggest rivals. The Rebels beat out the Wolfpack 2 games to 0 last winter to earn their second Championship but since then have won none of the last 3 meetings over the summer and fall seasons.

Rebels Finally Get a "W"

The Rebels improved on their performance from the previous game and that momentum helped them carry out a 3-1 victory over the Draggin Ballz. Darko and Martin each had a goal and an assist giving them 2 points a piece. James rounded out the scoring with his first goal after returning from a hiatus. The win guarantees the Rebels no lower than a 6th place finish in the standings but they could still finish as high as 3rd.

Rebels Lose in OT

The Rebels were up by a score of 3-1 after the first half with goals from Scott, Martin and Doven but were unable to hold the lead and found themselves going into overtime versus the Flatliners. Early in the extra frame the opponents were able to beat Nik on a goal that appeared to be clearly offside but the refs disagreed. It was a better performance by the Rebels with an unfortunate outcome but they still walk away with a point. Doven had one of his best games of the season with a goal and an assists for a 2 point night.

Coolies Too Hot For Rebels

The Rebels are now on a 5 game losing skid after falling to the Coolies by a score of 5-2. Ali netted a goal while Alex tallied a goal and an assist for a 2 point night. Jimmy added helpers to both goals to give himself a 2 point game. The losing streak has caused the Rebels to move from a season high 2nd place down to 6th place.

Hellions Too Much For Rebels

The losing streak continued going into the versus the Hellions. A minute and 19 seconds in Majid picked up his own rebound netting his first goal as a Rebel and giving his team an early 1-0 lead. Before the half was over the Hellions scored 3 unanswered goal to put Red down by 2 going into the half. The second half started strong and the Rebels continued the pressure and were rewarded with Matt W. scoring his first since his return to the team and kept the Rebels alive and within 1 goal, but that was all the Rebels managed as they let 2 more slip by them and had the victory stolen by a score of 5-2.

Rebels Losing Streak Continues

The Rebels came into this game losing their last 2 games but were looking to get revenge on the Phat Bastards who previously beat the Rebels 7-3 after red blew a 3-0 lead. The Rebels found themselves down 2 minutes in but quickly answered back with one of their own. By the half the Phat Bastards took a 1 goal lead going into the second. The second was not much better with the Rebels letting 2 more goals in and only notching one their own. Revenge failed as the Phat Bastards defeated the Rebels 4-2. Ali got both goals for the Rebels while Alex added both assists. Martin ended with a one point game.

Rebels Come Up Short Again

The Rebels came out strong in the first half against the Jokers Wild with the score tied at one going into the second. The two teams traded goals to start the second to knot things up a 2 a piece but then the Wild took the momentum and scored 3 unanswered goals to hand the Rebels a 5-2 loss. Ali had both goals for the Rebels while Alex provided the helpers on each to give him a 2 point night as well. The loss now moves the Rebels down to 4th place in the division.

Rebels Come Up Short Against Wolfpack

The Rebels had their fair amount of chances versus the Wolfpack but ended up on their heels early on and were not able to recover. The result turned out to be a 4-1 loss. Josh was the lone goal scorer for the Rebels with Darko adding the assist.

Rebels Back To Winning Again

Write up by Alex:

The Rebels came into the game against the 1-7 Draggin Balls 4-0-1 in their last 5 games. Red was unable to handle the pressure at the start of the first half and let one slip by them only 2 and a half minutes in. After the Rebels regained composure they battled back and dominated for the rest of the game scoring 4 unanswered goals to give them a 4-1 victory. Alex added 2 assists along with 2 goals for a 4 point game. Jimmy added 3 helpers during the evening for a 3 point game. Aiyaz finished with an assist along with his goal and Chris Finch added the remaining goal. The Rebels also showed restraint by getting no penalties this game!

Rebels Come Up Just Short Against the #1 Team

Write up by Alex:

The Rebels, riding a 3 game win streak, came in facing the 8-0 Patriots. Each team netted one before the half with Josh scoring the goal for the Rebels. During the second the teams went back and forth with the Patriots finding the back of the net followed Ali on the powerplay for the Rebels. The Patriots answered back to retake the lead then Alex tied things up again on a shot near the point. Then with just under a minute left Neal scored what looked to be the game winner but with only 16 seconds left the Patriots tied it up and sent it to overtime. OT solved nothing so the teams went to the shootout where the opposing team was able to score one while the Rebels were shut out handing them an OT loss. Jimmy and Neal both ended their nights with 2 points a piece.

Rebels Extend Winning Streak to Three

The Rebels brought their winning streak to 3 games but it took a shoot out to defeat Naughty Babay. James and Martin each tallied a goal and an assist to take the game into overtime but nothing was solved there so the game went to a shoot out. Newcomer Jimmy scored for the Rebels but Ali and Scott were unable to finish. Nik took the game into his own hands though stopping all 3 shooters to give his team the win.

The re-tiering has now taken place so with the combination of that and their winning streak the Rebels have moved from being in 10th place just 2 weeks ago to now being tied for 2nd in division 12. They are only 3 points out of 1st place.

Rebels Put Together A Winning Streak

Coming of their first win of the season, the Rebels took that momentum into the next game versus the 5th place Balls Deep. Even though the Rebels had their shortest bench of the season, everyone played hard and as a result took the game by a score of 4-2. Aiyaz "Ali", playing his first game as a Rebel was a welcome addition to the team as he provided an assist on Scott's goal and added one himself for a 2 point night. James had another 2 goal night which brings his total to an impressive 4 goals in 2 games. Chris Finch had a good night as well, tallying 2 assists.

Rebels Take Pulse Out Of Flatliners

The Rebels came face to face with the Flatliners in a battle to determine who would remain in last place in the division. Determined to not be that team, the Rebels played one of their best games of the season to prove it. The end result was a 4-2 win with Darren and James each picking up 2 goals a piece and Darko and Josh earning 2 assists each.

The Rebels came into their 4th game of the season looking for their first win. Half way through the opening frame the Rebels found themselves down 2-0. Just 5 minutes later Chris Finch netted his first of the season and cut the lead in half going into the second. At the start of the second it was all Rebels as Martin's blast from the slot tied the game up at 2 a piece. As time winded down, Red got themselves into some penalty trouble which eventually caught up to them in the last minute and a half. The final score, Jokers Wild 3 Rebels 2.

Saturday, September 24, 2011

Rebels Squander Lead

The Rebels came out hard in the first half scoring 3 goals in the first 15 minutes and looked poised to run away with the game. The Phat Bastards came back though scoring 3 themselves in the last 10 minutes of the first to tie things up. From there the Rebels weren't able to get their groove back and the onslaught began with their opponents scoring 4 more goals to run away with the game by a score of 7-3. Martin, Matt and Alex were the goals scorers for the Rebels.

Rebels Come Up Short Against The Elite

The Rebels had a full contingent out for this game but came up short to The Elite losing by a score of 3-1. Martin, playing in his first game as a Rebel was the lone goal scorer while Darko and James added the helpers.

15th Season Opener Goes Down With A Loss

Write up by Alex:

The Rebels, with a 2 month off season, came into their 15th season vs the Knights. The Rebels generated a lot of speed and chances during the first but at the end of the frame were down 2-0. The hard work continued into the second but still the Rebels were not able to generate a goal. At 11.20 in the second Neal notched the first goal of the season and closed the gap 3-1. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough for a comeback as the Rebels lost 4-1. Darren added the lone assist.

The Rebels showed up to play their first elimination game but unfortunately the same could not be said for the second as they were downed by the 3rd place Coolies by a score of 7-1 which resulted in an early exit from the playoffs. Mike Power was the lone goal scorer for the team.
The Rebels did have a pretty successful season considering the fact that they seemed to be in a "rebuild" phase. There were 9 new faces on the team this season and all have been welcome editions to the roster. The team will now build on their successes and work to improve going into the winter season.

Rebels Eliminate Wolves

The Rebels ended the regular season in 8th place which lined them up against the 5th place Wolves for the first elimination game of the playoffs. The Rebels showed up ready to play and their perseverance paid off in the form of a 3-2 win and a trip to the second round. Mike Power came in to help the team out and did so be providing the winning goal, something he tends to do regularly in the playoffs. Darko, Steve and James helped in the cause as well, coming away with 2 points a piece.

Rebels Lose Final Game Of Season

Balls Deep met the Rebels for the 3rd time this season, both teams with a victory over each other. The Rebels failed to strike first finding themselves down by 1 just under 10 minutes in. Darko found the net once again just 5 minutes later and tried to give the Rebels momentum. But the opponent was the one that gained it, netting one more before the half. Steve early in the second rifled home his team tieing 6th of the season and also tied the game up at 2. 3 minutes later the Rebels fell apart allowing Ball Deep to score twice in 22 seconds giving them 2 over the Rebels. Steve struck again with his team leading 7th goal but that wasnt quite enough to take the season series against Balls Deep. Steve ended the evening with a 3 point night.

Rebels Ride Pineapple Express To Victory

The Rebels came into tonight's game already securing a playoff spot but still wanted to work their way up the playoff tree. Mike Power returned and didn't disappoint scoring his first 2 goals of the season 13 minutes in. Only 3 minutes later Doug gave the Rebels the lead and put away his 3rd of the season. Mike added his 3rd point of the frame and Warren got his first point in a Rebels Jersey. 5 minutes into the second Alex and Matt played give and go which gave Alex his 3rd. Scott added the second assist for a 2 point game. The Pineapple Express came charging scoring 2 and tieing it up at 4. With 20 seconds to go Alex and Mike helped Doug blast the game winner and his second of the game giving the Rebels the win! Alex and Scott ended a 2 point night, Doug had 2 goals and an assist for 3 points and Mike capped his return with a 4 point game.

Rebels Lose to Wolves

The Rebels came in looking to seal a playoff spot and a victory. During the first half the Rebels got into a ton of penalty trouble and the Wolves took advantage to make it 1-0 at the half. Darko managed to net his 4th of the season to tie it up from Scott and Curt in the second half, but unfortunately the opposing team scored the game winner and stole a much needed 2 points. Since lower ranked teams lost battling for the last place the Rebels are guaranteed a spot in the post season.

Rebels Get Win By Default

The Rebels won by default against the Trojans, the team they played in the season opener, due not having enough players to start the game. The Rebels are now within 2 points of clinching a playoff spot with 3 games remaining.

Rebels Tie Chiefs

The Rebels came into the meeting with the Chiefs confident for a win but off the opening draw seconds in the opposing team netted one for a 1-0 lead, and soon after made it 2 zip. Hope was made when Darren found the back of the net to create a hockey game 4 minutes in. Later in the
frame Darko put home his 3rd from Josh and Paul to tie it at 2 at the half. The Chiefs managed to net 2 in the second but Neal scored his 4th of the season to put the Rebels within 1. The comeback was complete when the Captian, Scott put away his team leading 6th of the season and tied it up at 4. Overtime solved nothing so the Rebels came away with 1 point. Alex added 2 helpers while Neal finished the evening with 3 points!

Wednesday, July 13, 2011

Rebels Blank 4th Place Team

The Rebels played their 3rd game this week facing the 4th place Blitz and 7 and a half minutes in Scott scooped up the rebound from the point shot from Alex. Rebels Lose Another Close One

The Rebels came into Monday's game facing the 2nd place Coolies and only 21 seconds into the game the Rebels found themselves down 1-0. But red answered back a minute and a half later, with James blasting a shot from the slot and tying it up. By the end of the frame Rebels were down 2-1. Another quick start by the opposing team in the second added another 32 seconds in and boosted their lead by 2 against the Rebels, but red didn't quit because just over 5 minutes later Scott and Matt set up Neil to put the Rebels within 1. 10 minutes later, still fighting hard Alex and Darko were factors with Steve's blast from the point completing the comeback and tying the game 3-3. But unfortunately the visitors retaliated and sealed themselves a victory 4-3

Rebels Fall To Bush Pirates

Write up by Alex:

The Rebels came into this game facing the number 1 ranked Bush Pirates lot with a lot of confidence. Red worked really hard but eventually were down 2-0 before the end of the first. But a little hope was made when Alex found the back of the net with Chris L. adding the lonely assist, but that wasnt enough while the opposing team came away with a 2-1 victory against the Rebels.

Busted Balls!!!

Write up by Alex:

The Rebels came out with guns blazing and definitely paid off as Alex blasted home his first of the season from Scott and Curt just under 5 minutes into game and didn't quit. Only 6 minutes later a second Rebel player, Chris L found nothing but the back of the net to give Red a 2-0 lead just halfway through the first. Rebels continued catching their opponent off guard because just 4 minutes later, Josh tied the team lead in goals from Steve and Darko and rushed the team up 3 going into the second. Their hard work kept going, they killed off a double minor but eventually got caught as the Ball Busters netted 2 and were all of a sudden within 1. With 5 and a half to go in regulation Scott with a beautiful tee shot off the 18th drove home his 4th of the season and became tied in a 3 way for the team lead in goals, Darko and Steve both added their second helpers of the night.

Blown Gaskets!

Write up by Alex:

The Rebels played their second game in Div 12 against the 12th place Blown Gaskets and came out hard. Just under 7 minutes into the game, Scott with the extra effort in front of the net put home his 3rd of the season and put the Rebels up 1-0. The hard fought play continued and 7 minutes later James netted the Rebels a 2-0 lead going into the second. Faceoffs were big part of the game, half way through the second, a clean win gave Steve the advantage to blast a rocket from the point through traffic and sealed the 3-0 win for the Rebels. Nestor played fantastic and once again picked up his second shutout in 3 games. Steve and Scot both ended the evening with 2 point games.

Balls Too Deep

Write up by Alex:

The Rebels Division 12 debut didn't get off to a great start as they found themselves down by 2 only 3 minutes into the opening frame! It was a fast pace game from both sides with great chances by both teams until the Rebels found themselves down 3-0 with 5 to go in regulation, but the Rebels did not quit. With just under a buck 30 left in the game Josh broke the shutout and found the back of the net while James and Alex added the 2 helpers. Nestor once again was outstanding keeping Red in the game but unfortunately came up short by 2.

Victorious Secret Model a Win Over Rebels

The Rebels played a great game against the 5th place Victorious Secret but came up just short in the end losing by a score of 4-3. James, Darko and Doug were the goal scorers.
The Rebels now officially move down to Division 12 for the remainder of the season where they'll find themselves currently in 5th place.

Friday, May 27, 2011

Rebels Blank HC 71

The Rebels played arguably their best game of the season beating HC 71 by a score of 3-0. Alex, Steve and Matt W. all had two points a piece and Darko added the empty netter when HC 71 pulled their goalie. Nestor came up with more than a few key saves to earn his first shut out of the season.

Wednesday, May 25, 2011

Rebels Unable to Rise Up to Limp Sticks

The Rebels played another grinder game and had a fair amount of chances to find the back of the net but still came up short losing to the Limp Sticks by a score of 3-1. James was the lone goal scorer for the team.
The re-tiering has been completed and as a result the Rebels will find themselves moving down to division 12. They were in 12th place in Division 11 but will move up to 6th in Division 12 so it seems they will fit in better competition wise for the rest of the season.

Rebels Lose To Wolfpack

In the Winter Season that just finished the Rebels finished the regular season in 6th place overall while the Wolfpack finished in 2nd. We managed to sweep them in the finals though to win the Div. 10 championship. This Summer Season we picked up 11 new players so we thought it would be best to move down to Div. 11 so that we could still remain competitive. The Wolfpack only picked up 3 new players and for some reason thought it would be beneficial to move down to Div. 11 as well. The benefit for them is that they are 6 and 0 on the season so far. They'll obviously be moving up to where they belong when the re-tiering happens. Regardless of the revamped roster though, the Rebels played a tight game but did come up short losing to the Wolfpack by a score of 3-1. Josh was the lone goal scorer.
So far this season, out of 16 teams, the Rebels are ranked 5th in goals against allowing only 15 goals but are ranked 15th in goals for with only 8. The Rebels will need to find a way to generate more offense in order to be successful. It's still early in the season though and the team is still trying to come together to work as a unit so the potential certainly exists.

Thursday, May 05, 2011

Rebels Get Blanked By Blue Devils

Another tight game for the Rebels and another game where they come up just short, this time losing to the Blue Devils 1-0. Nestor played outstanding to keep the Rebels in the game but the offense wasn't able to find the back of the net on the other end which resulted in the loss.

Sunday, May 01, 2011

Autobots Roll Out on Rebels

The Rebels came out flat against the Autobots and as a result lost 5-1. Curt was the lone scorer for the Rebels with Alex adding the assist.

Wednesday, April 27, 2011

Rebels Lose To Kings

The Rebels played well but found themselves down 2-0 part way through the second half versus the first place Kings. James managed to break the shout-out attempt but it was a close as the Rebels would get as they were downed 2-1.

Monday, April 18, 2011

Rebels Battle Back To Win

The Rebels were down 1-0 to Balls Deep by the end of the first half but played well none the less so they knew they could battle back. Just 3 minutes into the second Josh started the scoring for the Rebels. Matt Williamson then added the go ahead goal 3 minutes later. Nestor played excellent in goal to fend off the onslaught from the opposing team and eventually help his team earn a 2-1 win. Darko also had a big night assisting on each goal to give him 2 points.

Wednesday, April 13, 2011

The Rebels started their 14th season with a draw versus the Trojans. The scoring came early for the Rebels when Scott found the back of the net just 24 seconds into the game. Matt Greenwood added to the lead scoring near the half way mark of the first frame. The Trojans then came back with three unanswered goals to take the lead. The Rebels fought hard though and were rewarded when Darcy scored with just 2 minutes left in the game to tie things up. Overtime settled nothing so both teams went away with a point. Chris Finch and Alex led the night with 2 points each.

Rebels Win Their Second Winter Championship In A Row!

The Rebels and Wolfpack played a tight defensive game 2 of the best of 3 finals. Mike scored early in the game and Scott H. managed to hang on and blank the Wolfpack to give the Rebels a 1-0 victory and 2-0 series win to earn them their second consecutive winter championship. Last year it was Mike who scored the winning goal to take the Divison 9 title and this year Mike did it again to earn the Division 10 title.
The Rebels were shaky during the regular season, only managing to squeak into the top 6 by winning their last game of the season and having the Super Troopers lose 6th place due to them losing their last game. But when the playoffs started the Rebels came together and played hard every shift. Scoring began coming from all 3 forward and defensive lines and as a result the team had 1 OT Loss and then 3 wins in a row to earn the title.

Rebels Dominate WolfPack

The Wolfpack struck first with a goal near the half way mark of the first half and it stayed that way until almost 7 minutes into the second half. That's when the Rebels took off and scored 5 answered goals to give them a 5-1 lead. The Wolfpack managed to beat Scott H. just one more time but it was too late for any type of comeback by that point and the Rebels went on to take the 1-0 lead in the best of 3 division final. Gary ended the night with a hat trick while Gino, Mike. Matt Gillespie and Shane all tallied 2 point each.

Rebels Win Big Against First Place Gnashers

The Rebels had a HUGE win versus the Knowlton Gnashers on Saturday.
